A bookable sauna and ice bath session, not just sauna access

Our traditional sauna is a cedar-lined room heated for a deep, dry heat, with an ice bath a few steps away. You book a defined session at a set time, so you arrive knowing the space and the time are yours rather than simply entering a busy public sauna environment. It is a calmer, more personal environment with limited sharing and a session time reserved for you. Recovery Hub is at 151 High Street, Lower Hutt, a short walk from the centre of town and easy to reach from across the Hutt Valley and greater Wellington.

Why we pair sauna with an ice bath

Heat and cold work well together. Time in the sauna warms the body, relaxes tight muscles and gives your nervous system a chance to settle. Stepping into the ice bath afterwards is a sharp, refreshing contrast that many people find leaves them clear-headed and loose. Alternating between the two, often called contrast therapy or hot and cold therapy, is a simple, repeatable routine people use after training, after a long week at work, or just to feel better. You choose how many rounds you do and how long you stay in each; there is no set protocol you have to follow.

30 or 60 minute sessions

30 minutes

$20

A focused reset: a couple of rounds of heat with an ice bath between or at the end. It fits neatly into a lunch break or straight after the gym.

60 minutes

$25

Room to slow down: several unhurried rounds, longer in the heat and longer to sit and cool down between. Best if you are new and want time to find your rhythm, or you are sharing the session and want to talk.

Both session lengths include the ice bath. Prices are per person.

Solo bookings and how sharing works

Book for one person and the sauna may be shared with a maximum of one other one-person booking, so at most two people in the room. You will never walk into a full sauna. If you would rather not share at all, add a +1 to your booking.

Bring a +1

Add a second person to your booking and the sauna is yours for the session; we do not put another booking in with you. Popular with couples, training partners and friends who want the space to themselves.

Groups of up to 4

Our traditional sauna takes up to 4 people in one booking. Good for a team after training, a family, or a small group of friends who want the room to themselves. For larger bookings, see our groups options.

Recovery, muscle soreness and relaxation

People book traditional sauna and ice bath sessions for different reasons: easing muscle soreness after training, unwinding heavy or tired legs, supporting circulation, or simply as protected time away from screens. Heat helps you relax and loosen up, and cold water is a strong, refreshing wake-up. People use regular sessions as part of their routine for recovery, relaxation, switching off and taking time out between busy weeks or hard training days. Everyone responds differently, so use the session in the way that suits you, and check with your doctor first if you are pregnant or manage a heart, blood pressure or other health condition.
